Overcoming Fear

Fear can be a business owner’s worst nightmare. It gets in the way of allowing you to move forward and experience success. Yet, a little bit of fear can go a long way if you choose to face it head on and move forward.

I know personally what it’s like to experience fear. I felt it the moment I agreed to do a webinar for an organization where they are used to having top thought leaders present their findings in this format. It took me a while to realize that I too fell into the category of thought leader. After hemming and hawing and wasting an entire day trying to figure out what I needed to do to connect with an audience that I couldn’t see, I finally decided to reach out to an expert on this topic. I sure wish I had done so earlier, as I would have been so much more productive.

I feel fortunate that I didn’t let my fear get in the way of moving forward. I took her advice and created a program that is on par with those who are more experienced in the delivery of webinars. I am now looking forward to presenting to this group and will continue to improve my skills in this area so that I am less fearful and more confident about saying yes to things that I’m still working on mastering.

I’ve had many a conversation with decision makers who are fearful of moving forward on initiatives that are getting in the way of their organization’s success. I look at it this way. What have you got to lose if what you are doing isn’t working? I suspect the only thing you have to lose is fear itself.
