Offering Value

I took a client out to lunch the other day at a local restaurant and was surprised to find out that there is a price tag on every head (or shall I say tail) of shrimp. We both ordered the Caesar salad and for a small up charge, my client was able to add chicken. I on the other hand requested shrimp and was told that each shrimp would be $2 a piece. Why not simply say for a set charge, shrimp can be added to your salad? Asking diners to pay per shrimp for tiny shrimp doesn’t really leave a great taste in the patron’s mouth. It seems petty and a cheap way to make a buck (or in this case two bucks.)

People expect value these days and when they don’t receive it, they take their business elsewhere. What are you personally doing to add value to every interaction you have with your customers? Will people keep referring their neighbors and friends because of the value you offer or will they search for another place to spend their hard earned money?
